Our volunteering policy allows every employee to take 1 day each year to participate in a community volunteering programme. The policy encourages colleagues to either support Viridor's chosen charity or work with local community groups. Volunteering can either be arranged as a team exercise, but equally we encourage individuals to get involved too. In 2017/18 Viridor delivered 859 employee volunteering hours.

Big Taunton Litter pick – 13th November 2018
Ran in partnership with Somerset Wildlife Trust who are working with local businesses, community groups, schools and residents to clean up the town for both people and wildlife. 25 employees took part in this volunteering day which involved both land-based and water-based litter picking along the River Tone in Taunton. It was a hugely successful day, collecting over 60 bags of rubbish.
Employees have taken part in 4 beach cleans on Branscombe, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Dawlish Warren, Widemouth Bay, Sandymouth beaches. In total a 600Kgs of rubbish were removed from the beaches of which 350Kgs of this was recycled. It was extremely beneficial for the more remote beaches as they do not have local authority cleaning contracts. The beach clean at Bude had 40 volunteers cleaning for 4 hours this equated to 160 hours of volunteer help in just one afternoon.
