Local children given winter clothing thanks to Viridor donation

08th October 2019

A donation of £1,666 from Viridor, is set to help Scotland's Radio Forth Cash for Kids Coats for Kids campaign give 66 disadvantaged local children winter clothing packs, including a winter coat each.

Cash for Kids was nominated by Viridor employees to ensure local children have appropriate warm clothing for the winter months. The funds are from Viridor Charitable Donations.

A cheque was presented to Boogie and Arlene of Forth 1’s morning show Boogie in the Morning on Monday 01 October by Barry Neill, Viridor’s Collections Business Manager from the Bonnyrigg site.

Speaking following the presentation of the cheque, Barry Neill said: “One of our priorities at Viridor has always been to give back to the community. The Coats for Kids campaign is one which our staff feel very passionately about and we’re proud to support their work to ensure children are provided with the warm winter clothing.”

A parent of one of the children who has benefited from the scheme, but wished to remain anonymous, said: “Getting a voucher for a new jacket and clothing for my son was amazing. As a single parent it’s sometimes tough to regularly buy new clothes so he is always in hand-me-downs from friends’ kids. This has made his day and he’s very proud of his new coat which he actually hangs up when he comes home instead of dropping it on the floor like everything else.”

Victoria Hendry, Charity Manager at Radio Forth Cash for Kids, was delighted at the donation, saying: “The kids receiving the vouchers for winter clothing are living in extremely disadvantaged circumstances. We are always inundated with applications as part of this campaign and this donation will really help us meet the demand.

“By giving these young people new winter clothing, it will not only increase their self-esteem but also helps to remove pressure from parents that may be struggling.”
