Transforming residual waste into vital energy
As the UK moves towards a sustainable circular economy model, Viridor is playing a key role by delivering low carbon energy from society’s waste.
Energy is recovered from waste in two ways, either via gas, as is the case with landfill gas or anaerobic digestion (AD), or through combustion in Energy Recovery Facilities (ERF) and similar facilities, some of which may be a part of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) schemes.
Whilst the EU Landfill Directive has reduced the amount of biodegradable municipal waste going to landfill, we are focusing our attention on maximising energy from landfill sites with a range of new technologies including new generation engines, solar and energy storage.
Our energy operations are complemented by our Energy Services team. As well as providing energy management across Viridor’s facilities, they also offer advice to Independent Energy Generators and Local Authorities on energy management, contracts, subsidies and renewables.
